Hi,

On the quest for the perfect father's day gift, I bought my father a Zebco Hawg Seeker with "electronic bite alert" rod and reel combo. I have no experience with this new line of Zebco products, and was wondering for information regarding their longevity, durability, personal experiences, and their overall quality.

I bought it simply because IMO you can't go wrong with a Zebco. I have had great experiences with the 11, 33, 202, 404, 733 Hawg, 808, and 888.

So, what do you think or what have you heard about this rod and reel???

No one has any experience with this rod and reel with the 30 bajillion members MFK has???

I think the reel is very similar to the 733 Hawg. Same gear ratios, drag, and line. The rod seems nice; it is a 2 piece 7 footer...

I just bought myself one as well. For $50 you can't really go wrong....

I'm not a big fan of zebco. My choice of reels are Quantum's pti energy series, phuelger and diawa.

u should have just got him an abu garcia reel and a decent 7ft rod. Zebco are generally for younger kids. Unless he likes fishin w/ them than IDK.

Thanks for the advice. He is def. a fan of Zebco and he stayed fishin all night just to test out the bait alert, so I take it he liked it. Mods can close...

Isn't Quantum Zebco's high-end line?

Seems alright to me. For $40 at walmart, you can't really go wrong. It's done well on saltwater for me, although the reel comes too heavily loaded, so you may want to take 10-20 yards of line off.

generally don't get zebco either but my wife refuses to use an openface reel (also refuses to learn to drive a stick shift). I've ALWAYS had better luck with cheapy openface reels than I've had with any zebco except her zebco 11 on her crappie rod which hasn't' had one rats nest yet. I generally use Abu garcia reels on Lamiglas rods myself.
