i was wondering, if i was to have a 60 gallon tank full of datnoid pulchers..wut kind of environment or setup would b best for its colors and comfortability? i heard dat a bare tank wid no plants or gravel is better and also dat black backround wid light sand is better. i was wondering which was true? thanks in advanced.

This topic is a confusing one....

People have tried everything to get there datnoids stable and sometimes it just will not work. I don't think factors like sand or plants etc have a major role in this. It is just the individual fish.

Some of the best dats I have seen are in complete bare tanks and some are in planted tanks.

All of the tanks I keep dats in have either sand or gravel. They all have a dark background and numerous peices of driftwood. They are all stable.

I found that my datnoids didn't like plants, they ripped them up...

Try a few different combos. Whatever works best, keep it that way.

I'm having problems with them trying to kill each other. I only have 2 thin bars and 1 Indo in a 55. Just sand and a few rocks. Every tank I put them in they always get beat up byone of my thin bars. And there all the same size. I think thats why my other indo died. Stress, leads to disease.

you make datnoids sound like your mother-in-law.

jeez.

raise it like you would raise any other fish.

if you're water is clean and the tankmates are nice, then it'll show good color and be a great fish.

there are no magic formulas.

:shakehead:

They are very hardy fish and just treat them like anything else and they should be fine

True...

But you can piss them off very easy.

any reason why they died? :screwy: i currently have 12 dats in my 60 gal tank with an xp3 filter and a powehead aquaclear 30 for air and water circulation bare bottom. hardy fish... yes i agree. i do water changes straight from the tap water with titration on stress coat meds. they eat like hell. 36 feeders in less than 10 minutes. i believe they are not as sensitive as other fishes. i had kept exotic plecos and they are hard to keep healthy. don't know why. but i find dats as nice and tough fish but not to abuse them.:D
