good/best environment for datnoid

any reason why they died? :screwy: i currently have 12 dats in my 60 gal tank with an xp3 filter and a powehead aquaclear 30 for air and water circulation bare bottom. hardy fish... yes i agree. i do water changes straight from the tap water with titration on stress coat meds. they eat like hell. 36 feeders in less than 10 minutes. i believe they are not as sensitive as other fishes. i had kept exotic plecos and they are hard to keep healthy. don't know why. but i find dats as nice and tough fish but not to abuse them.:D

Well your my hero. I only have 3 and there always scratching. Any ideas?
Can you post some pics of your tank please?
And how is the xp3? I just ordered one and a aquaclear50.

tigers do scratch normally i thing

if you are having trouble with them fighting then you need to add more

also i like to keep the tank open with no hiding places as then the tigers hold their own teritory which also makes them fight

all tanks need substrate

scratching as long as it isnt frequent its normal. If it is it means your water is irritating them.

Unless you plan to have a gd undergravel filtration dont place substrate. RIDICULOUS that it is neccessary. All it does without the undergravel filter is to beautify the tank bottom.

The more dats u cram in the more chances of them stunting remember that. All fish grow to suit their environment.

Fighting will always occur in a pred tank and is unavoidable. Keep them well fed and fighting will be minimal.

They scratch even after I've changed the water. Within one week They had "the disease"(some wierd bacterial infection, looks like pimples), fungus, ich, and gill disease. I already lost one to gill flukes I think. His body looked sunkened in but his stomach was fat. I treated with salt and heat and meds for gill parasites. Went away but they still scratch. One is in a 29g and the other 2 are in a 10 temporarily. They all scratch. I'm really worried. This is why I think they are sensitive. I used to think that they were hardy because I kept one with my oscar and took some damage but always held its own. But from recent events I maybe wrong. I cant wait for my filter to get here. I will put all 3 in the 55. Maybe tall drift wood, sand, heater and background. My dats are about 6".

i think you have ick. i use jungle's fungus clear tablets. i find them effective on all my fishes. it won't hurt them to treat them. treatment goes for 1 week to eradicate all the problem. i tried rid ick before but no luck. the fungus clear really helped a lot on my side. i did not need to raise the temp nor add salt. and besides if you're treating ick alone it might not be the only cause. good luck and keep us updated.:D

wash/change the filter media and treat your tank.

Have encountered the pimple disease, can be cured w salt and heater. But success rate varies.

Should be your filter tts giving the prob.

Thanks will do. I noticed that the last time I cleaned my tank I took out the decor and just left the sand and the background. My dats are way more active and the bigger ones seems to be a little less aggresive to the other. They constantly swim around now.

rkc772, so whats the word on that filter?

they're probably sick fish to begin with.

just like if I were to buy a sick goldfish, it'll die even though they're tough as rock.
thank you ming. that bastard always talking about how the pulchers died on me. it wasnt my fault!@!!!! :swear:
