Good Bottom Feeder for Cichla

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it's temporary, raphael...if it's permanent, go like others said and get their bigger "cousins"...irwini if you like or there's a lot of other possibilities.

most catfish that aren't fragile will work.

don't mean to hijack the thread but would a 3-4" bichir be too small for a 4" tems? I want something to stir up my sand and to clean up as well. I saw a few of these 3-4"ers at petsmart and was tempted to get them.

no, but they will outgrow it and eat it.

I was going to say larger polys, too.

I've kept a leiarius longibarbus with mine for quite a while. He has been the perfect companion for my tems and monos. They never bother each other, the longibarbus eats anything left on the botom and doesn't pump out tons of waste like pleco's do. Also tey grow to 2 foot which is a good size to match the pbass and he is growing at the same rate as my temensis. His long whiskers and his marble pattern are really cool too.

I'm new to pbass and have gotten the impression that kelbs grow slow, how would they be with a poly? Will they outgrow them very soon as well?

that's a nice marbled pim. that one is actually marmoratus. There was some confusion, but that is the correct name (again). I just got an L. pictus that is going to go in w/ my bass...very similar, but only get 2' (I heard marms get 30")

I've never had a kelberi before and I just have little ones that i haven't had very long, so I know about as much as you've read.

You are right. I think longibarbis and marmoratus were believed to be the same species until recently. Good luck with the L.pictus, they have an awesome tall dorsal don't they. I think Leiarius make perfect bottom feeders for a cichla tank.
