i thought it was a good buy. add was for $100 but when i got there he said $50 so right on. anyone have better opinions for a building a stand to have the two 75's beside each other??

GREAT DEAL!

As far as suggestions, you don't need pressure treated wood. If its gona be inside, use regular wood for your structure, its cheaper. Also the stand under my 90 (same footprint) uses 2x4's and a couple 2x6's so I wouldn't think you'd need 4x4's.

wood members are stronger when in compression than in tension. Actually crushed some of them in a mechanics lab in college...COOl stuff! You'd be amazed at how much force a piece of wood can support, 1000's of psi

Compression in this case would be vertically loaded beams (under the weight of your tank in the corners and middle) while tension would be horizontally loaded. The wieght distribution would be spread out among the horizontal beams and then into the vertical beams, which would be supporting the majority of the weight.

WOW i'm sounding like a nerd now :grinno:

well ive started building and im looking to go with some of the plans ive seen on here instead of using the 6 x 6s or 4 x 4s cause i dont have access to the bench saw at the moment. ill use extra 2 x 6s one in between the top and bottom then one connected to that peice and the top and bottom. not very good at describing things. all is out of 2 x 6 pressure treated as i have the lumber .... rather use it then let it go to waste and spend money i dont have on other lumber. thanks everyone.

OK Cool didn't know you already had the lumber. You should be good to go with 2x6's

You should take pics as you go and put a thread in the DIY section

Thats a great buy for my area. especially with the thick glass.

im kinda cramped in the space im working in ill try and take pictures where i can and when i get done.

aight.. .. heres pretty much the basic frame of 1 now to do the second one cut some more wood and do the braces on top and bottom then the middle legs and corner legs

that about closes it up for today ... should be able to finish off both stand frames tomorrow and put the top on. still have to add the corner legs and finish up the top and bottom support braces. think it will hold up fine with the weight??
