A friend of mine will be going to Malaysia soon and I'm hoping to get him to pick up a good canister filter for me there...any idea which ones they have? And the price range?

Just came across this old post... :) not many people from Malaysia here, eh?

i believe the jebo filters are availible over there. i had one and was pleased

I wonder how much the Jebo would cost there... should be nice to get a couple...

If your friend plan to come to Kuala Lumpur, I strongly recommend that he should visit Pasar Road (Jalan Pasar). There you can find a lot of aquarium fish stalls and a few fish shops a long the street. It is famous for variety of aquarium fish and equipment that are cheap. You can also find the canister filter at an afordable price. I cannot recommend what type you can buy since I never use one. All my aquarium is using power filter with top filter container.

Thank you for that. :)

So you are using an Over Head Filter, eh? Can you please show some pictures of that? I know that this type of filter is very common in Asia and is reputed to be very effective.

This type of filter is the most commonly used in Malaysia. It is very easy to maintain & to clean. The price is quite cheap, ranging from RM 20 to 60, depending on the power filter type (how many watt). Below is the picture.

Ah, thank you for this! :)

In fact, I use similar ones on my 55 gal tank (some pictures attached). I've stacked 3 of these containers - 2 medium ones and a big one.

The first one contains sponge, the second one contains filter floss and the third one contains Aquaclay. I've also placed a few plants near the outflow of that third one.

You can see the package boxes in the first picture, the stacked containers in the second one and the powerhead in the third one.

Thanks for sharing. This is the first time I saw overhead containers stacked on top of each other. I don't know that you can do that. If you don't mind I would like to ask more about the stacked containers.
- Does the stacked overhead container come in set?
- If not, how do you stack them? Do some modification on the containers required? How do you stack them?
- Do you place the container inside the cover of your aquarium?
- Do they leak when you stack like that?
Apologize if I'm asking too many questions.

By the way I notice that you have a snakehead. Vicious fish. I had one long time ago. Got to give them away, they eat a lot.
