Thanks for sharing. This is the first time I saw overhead containers stacked on top of each other. I don't know that you can do that. If you don't mind I would like to ask more about the stacked containers.
- Does the stacked overhead container come in set?
- If not, how do you stack them? Do some modification on the containers required? How do you stack them?
- Do you place the container inside the cover of your aquarium?
- Do they leak when you stack like that?
Apologize if I'm asking too many questions.

By the way I notice that you have a snakehead. Vicious fish. I had one long time ago. Got to give them away, they eat a lot.
Sharing is what we are here for! :)
  • No, they don't come in a set. They are just like the ones you have. I've just stacked 3 of them.
  • No modification except that I have removed the covers of the 2 containers that are below. I've just placed the containers one on top of the other as I've found that they fit into each other. The key, though, is to switch the middle one front to back for proper water flow. Only the bottom container uses the holding tray.
  • Well, my tank has just a sheet of class covering it. The filter is placed at the back completely with the glass sheet starting just in front of it.
  • No, they don't leak - but you have to be careful with the water input and water flow. Or else the containers will overflow.
No need to apologise. :) I'm glad I'm sharing.

Ah, that snakehead is a sweetie really. When I got it from the LFS it had been fed with feeders only. I placed it in my 150 gal along with my cats and clown knife which were fed pellets. It didn't eat at all. Then I moved it to the 55 gal and still it wouldn't eat. After 3 weeks it decided to eat some freezed dried shrimps. Now that it's crazy about the shrimps (it gorges itself on them once a day) I'm trying to get it to eat pellets. ;)

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe I can try it on my 75 gallon.

I believe your snakehead is from the giant snakehead species (in malaysia it is called tiger snakehead because of the stripe). From my experience they only eat meaty food and preferably fresh meaty food. They don't take pallet. Unless yours is the common snake head (the brown colour one and a little smaller), it does take pallet. My previous 2 feet giant snake head eat slices of chicken and squid. I stop giving him feeder fish because he clear them within a few minutes no matter how many a put in the tank.

Be careful with your hand and fingers. They give nasty bites. I almost got bitten by my snake head when cleaning his tank. Fortunately, he bite the net that I used. The steel frame of the net has teeth mark and the net is torn the size of his mouth. That is when I decided to give him away. My uncle get 5 stiches in his hand when the snakehead jump and bite during feeding time. Anyway fascinating specimen to keep.

I WISH!!! :D

Loulou,

Refering to your previous reply in Giant Gourami thread, my tank come with a top plastic cover (refer picture 1 & 2).

If I want to place the 3 tiers OHF, I cannot close the top cover. I can place only 1 OHF if I want to close the cover (refer picture 3). If I don't close the top cover, there will be a gap to the left and right side of my OHF (refer picture 4). My fish may jump out. Do you have any suggestion to resolve this.

On your suggestion for me to add sponge filter, currently I'm using an internal filter on the left side of my 4 feet tank as an additional filter (refer picture 5). The internal filter has 2 sponge container. Base on your experience, which filter is the best, Sponge Filter using air pump or internal filter using power head?

Your comment is greatly appreciated.;) Sorry for the poor quality picture.

Just a quick question: can you put 2-3 of the containers in a row?

I didn't expect your tank to have such a cover... mine is custom-made and I have placed a sheet of glass on top of it as cover (heavy enough so that no fish can lift it... yet). That sheet is placed in front - on the back, there's the holder for the containers. I've filled any gaps with weighed foam blocks...

Anyway, do you think it would be possible for you to align 3 of the containers in a row on a same holder and then use a spray bar from the powerhead? You might have to use a more powerful powerhead though... you can then fill the three containers with some bio-media (e.g. ceramic rings) covered with some floss.

If you don't mind the cover open (maybe you could unhinge and remove it) then you could place a piece of glass sheet between the containers and the tubing from the powerhead (I like my container to be as far from the powerhead as possible).

That powerfilter is nice - you can use it. I use a couple of these in my 150 for (supposedly) polishing water. Got to clean them very often as I use filter floss inside.

As for the sponge filter, you can then use it on the powerhead of your OHF.

:)

You Malaysian boys have some weird filters over there, interesting stuff indeed.

There should be a thread on OHF somewhere... must find it...

:) I'm Mauritian, BTW... ;)
