I say a good choice would be some A. Cutteri.

Why would anyone waste a tank on Convicts is beyond me..... might as well keep feeder guppies, same purpose.

my cutteri's just colored up. Amazing looking fish once they color up.

other types of cryptoheroes would work too, I've got myrnae, and spirulum's with my cutteri which are cool too. Look up some different types of archocentrus too.

They're pretty peaceful as far as CA cichlids go. I don't think I'd do a group in a 30 gallon, but larger tanks sure.

I want to try it in a 36''x12'', but still not sure if that'd be large enough for a group/what size group I could do if it was possible.
