good cichlid to breed in 40 gallon bow front.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I want cichlids that breed at a young age and you can sex when they are juvies and that are worth a few bucks.

Maybe one pair of Yellow Labs? My LFS is looking for a breeding to buy juvies at $3 each...
Apart from what you've been describing your only choice IMO is a pair of convicts..

It's not really you it's the 40G, if you can upgrade your options WIDELY open.

Why do they have to be worth something? If you sell 100 convicts at $3 each you get $300 then use the $300 to buy a bigger tank so you could breed something else maybe?

I kind of wanted to stick to a 40 gal.I think rams will be my beat bet. Could I have a pair of rams and a pair of kribs in the tank. The tank is a bow front.

I like to use all my big tanks for a single large cichlid.

I don't know about combining them, when I had my pair of Rams (German Blue) they acted like Convicts to everything else in the tank for some reason. Also I've heard that they aren't good parents but I'm not positive since my Rams eggs disappeared... lol

I used to have a pair of rams. They only became (extremely) aggressive when breeding. Although I never got fry, I read that it takes them quite a few tries to get it right. Also If you have hard water the eggs WILL NOT hatch... Use water with a ph under 6 if possible. I've heard that RO (reverse Osmosis) works best.
