Pictures help. Cichlid community isn't that kind of an oxymoron. J/J Do research, buy a book, but never shake a baby.

I once saw a Vieja Community Tank. It looks awesome to see those big CAs in one tank. Will try to get the pics again and post here.

This is my CA/SA Community Tank late 2003. I seperated them early 2004 because aggresssion started to rise and I was always on foreign assignment so I can not really watch over the tank. It is a 90 gal tank with the following:

1 18in Jardini which serves as the Dominant fish in the tank. It puts the tank in order; 2 bifaciatum; 1 Fenestratum; 1 Hartwegi; 2 Zonatum; 1 Regani, 1 Godmani; 1 Tuyrense; 2 Red Jewel (did not last in the tank); 2 Golden Tin Foil (diether fish) and a lot of Zebra Danios (target fish). Planning to go at it again in my 150gal tank.

There is also 1 PigNose Turtle. the key to this kind of setup is to have a ready hospital tank with good filtration and heater for the fist to recover quickly. The community have controlled overcrowding so that no one fish can be ganged up by the bigger and more agressive ones and there must be a really big fish that will put the tank in order so that none of the viejas can be the dominant in the tank. It helps to have target fish in the tank which distracts them from each other. And most important, attention should be given to the tank always to monitor if any are wounded because of the aggression in the tank that is required to be transferred to the hospital tank.
