Has anyone had any luck getting shy dats to come out of their shell using dither fish? If so, what did you use? I know smaller ones take time to acclimate and others will always just be shy..just wondering if anyone has had any success.

Black barred myleus, tinfoil, silver dollar, red hooks...

Some members have had success with tiger barbs, kept with baby tigers of course.

i've kept all sorts of fish with datnoids and as long as the fish is slow growing and not too exuberant it can help the smaller shy datnoids come out of their shell, mainly to compete for food.

I had giant Danios as a dither, right before my pike engulfed one of them.....he lasted about 5 mins. The other guy is hanging tough though.

Cool but did any of you guys notice a change in your dats once you added the dithers?

A little, but not too much...
Best thing is patience and time. Some takes
Weeks or months... Or several months before they display.

Just remove all hiding spaces also...

I heard that using like size cut outs of the outline of dats on your background works in the same way.

I used filament barbs and they are really cool. I did 4 of them and thet add a really active touch to the tank.

That's another thing.. I have a small piece of driftwood in there that some of them hide by and a few hide by my canister output. I'd take the driftwood out but it seems so cruel not giving them ANY spots to hide? Then some people say giving them a hiding spots lessens stress?? Any thoughts?

NO DRIFTWOOD when they are small. Put about 3-5 medium size red parrots (NOT BIG OR SMALL). Too big is too mean. Too small is too shy. They are very good dithers and also for pellet training too bro. They worked very well for me in the past. Good luck.
