Hey all, I'm stumped here. What would be a good dither for my 90 gallon? Since my SAE's croaked, and growing them from babies (all the lfs had) would take forever, I don't want to go back to using them yet. I would like to try my hand at keeping some tetras/something else maybe. I recently had to remove the atromaculatus into my spare tank and move my convicts back in the 90. The salvini was being a butthole, and now it flip flopped again to where the big convict is the king. Stumpy keeps getting in fights with both the salvini and convicts now, milomo is confused about being chased all the time (he is basically the dither, but he gets nipped too much, kinda worried), the plecos hide more, and the frontosa is sick of everyone's crap... he looks even grumpier. AGH. STUPID RESCUED CICHLIDS! I haven't had any problems with them up until this point with the sae's dying/atromacs being introduced.

Any thoughts? Ideally they would be too fast for the convicts and the salvini and get over 3". I will probably get up to 6 of them. I would do congo tetras but they seem a little pricey. I want something dirt cheap (preferably under 5 bucks a fish, maybe 20 bucks total.... broke) if they get eaten. If they are a bit agressive and can swim at all tank levels that's cool too. Maybe barbs/giant danios would be good? Blind cave tetras? (I've heard they can get mean.) A single oddball fish? I don't want to have to rehome any I have now if I can avoid it. I've tried in the past but no luck.

Are rosy reds cheap over there??? Coz they are pretty fast fish which would seem to be what you're pooking for, and im pretty sure they reach 3-4" maybe a bit more???

^ sorry gamerchick, got the name wrong i think... let me find the proper name of the fish and get back to you...

Hmm... never thought of that, rosy red minnows? Maybe that's what I'll do haha. Under 30 cents I think. Quarantining them would suck though, coming from those feeder tanks. Plus salvini would be salivating....

Rose line sharks or Denison barb is the other name. Salvini may get them as well.

Oh those guys, yeah I was thinking about getting a few to go with the sae's but dang they are pricey. Big ones go for almost 30 bucks here. Think a baby bala shark or a few would be ok for the short term? I will be moving hopefully in a year and upgrading to a few 6ft tanks. I know they get 14" though.

Rent some tinfoil barbs? Buy them at 3" and give them back at 7"

Rummy Nose Tetra (emigrammus rhodostomus) was the fish i was thinking of... but they only grow to 2" in size which maybe a problem for you??? Although with that being said, i can say they are pretty damn fast...

Filament barbs are great, they'll get up to about six inches I think ,and they're a little scrappy.....usually around 3-5 bucks ea. they'll take a little time but the males get some good color
