Thanks. I think I will just do the holes at the bottom, and flip the bucket when its time to pull it out, that way the junk wont back was into the pond, the guy who wrote the directs claimed it has to be completely submerged anyway but I till think that would be a good idea. Im only using this If I cant get a hold of the media for my trash can filter.

Your Welcome and good luck with your pond project.... :)

Would this work, Thanks

Having the pump outside the bucket it could get clogged with leaves and debry.... But yes it would work for a little bit unless this is an inside pond but you would have to keep and eye on it to make sure no fish get stuck on it or sucked in..... The pump inside the bucket after the media and filter keeps large debry from entering the pump.....

Sorry I didnt mention it, the pond is inside,, the pump has a cage, and I have a floating growout tank till he hits 8 inches then if I need to Ill add a bigger cage.Do you think I nedd the second filter pad. It will probably be quilt batting and Ill replace it every month. For the bio media should I just rinse it with pond water every few months or just leave it be.

This is just my opinion so you may hear different views......Yes if you have a cage for the pump and it's an inside pond it will work fine......You can use the second filter also but to clean it/change it you will have to remove all the scrubbies(I believe thats what you said you were using) to get the second filter out....You don't have to rinse the scrubbies off every time you change the filter unless they get VERY clogged (they have large openings for water to flow through so you can see if they clog or no water flows through the output... Also cleaning the scrubbies with pond water will be ok... Get a fresh 5 gallon bucket with no holes and fill it with pond water and put your scrubbies in it. place the lid over the bucket and shake the chit outta it. Then remove the scrubbies shaking any large piece off and put them back in your filter. Don't clean them to good they have all the goodies on them for your filtration ......
