Good enough for a 55 gal

Is this filtration good enough for a 50gal, I'm also adding another sponge filter too.

Heres a pic of what I'm planning to do.

You dont need to use caRBON unless your taking out meds and tannins from driftwood. Can you explain this setup as I got no clue on what it is.
 
The power head pumps the water through the pipes with holes in it, it falls through the filter media, and into the water.
 
oh yeah, The carbon is going to be there because this thing is going to be loaded with Drift wood.
 
Thats why I've got the sponge filter, I havn't got the tank or anything, I was planning on making the filter before i actually buy the tank, So i'm not sure what my bio load will be.

Please suggest what powerheads i should get.
 
Depends on how much capacity you are talking about and the bioload. Need more specifics.
 
If i am looking at the drawing correctly, your powerhead will get clogged. Media should always be before an impeller.

I do not like these DIY powerhead filters. They are great for little tanks, but you really need a nice HOB or canister on a 55g, especially if you want to stock it with monsters.
