Good/Happy/Postive Stories from Petsmart or Petco

I got a Frontosa once for $4.99, about 3". I also got a black Alto. calvus for $10 and they had them in the next week for $26 ea. I havn't seen them since.
That was Petsmart.
Pecto....no good stories. I got a tank there for $20...20gallon.
 
Dont get much fish related from either, mostly due to selection and if they have it so does my lfs so I choose to support the local guys but when I did buy fish there I never had an issue. Both chains let local shelters have adoption events there, I got one of my bassets at one held at the petco.
 
My step dad got a protein skimmer for 130 bucks on sale. they sell marine salt really cheap, and they generally sell a lot of good priced supplies. tehy are one of the cheapest suppliers of 40 breeders I know, and I've got some really nice fish from petsmart before, you jut have to make sure they are healthy thats all.
 
My opinion from what I've experienced

These might only apply to my local petsmarts and petcos

petsmart has more variety of fish and look healthier
both stores have employees with good advice, though the advice is common knowledge for fish keepers
petco's stuff is more expensive
 
Two years ago (before I started working at a lfs) I got a lot of my fish from there, rescued a Senegal, bought an African brown knife, and a featherfin, all cool fish... Until velvet hit the scaleless fish hard, only have the Senegal out of the three still :/ . Also got a killer deal on a fluval 206, bought all my sand there, and have a good selection of food.

Petco- never have gotten a fish there, but have jumped in on the $/g sale. Also it used to be the only place to get Nls near me.

Both are an excellent place for dithers. Yesterday I bough all the tiger barbs they had at $1 a pop. Today I bought all of the Silver dollars they had at a buck a pop. It was funny because when the clerk was ringing me up the total came to about $30 but I pulled out my handy dandy card and got 5 silver dollars for 5 bucks. Very pleased with the purchase. I want more but didn't feel like driving 20 minutes to go to the other PetSmart in town. I've been dropping this video every chance I get.
