Well, my little brother wants to have his own tank... But I'm not sure he is ready to even handle a goldfish.

I was thinking of maybe getting him some sea monkeys :naughty:, but would it be worth it? Is there a better starter fish out there?

Sea monkeys....seriously? Really there are lots of good starter fish. I would stay away from the Goldies though unless you have a good size tank for him. You could get him some, guppies, rasboras, tetras, a betta, endlers, or maybe Mollies, or platys, Swordtails. Not sure what size tank you are talking about getting him, but for a smaller tank any of those should be fine..and there are a good variety of all.

the best thing you can do is get him a 10 gallon tank kit from walmart. theyre $30 around here, plus a heater for 10$.

as for fish, do a blue gourami, they can live through anything

I have some 10 gallon tanks in the garage (old feeder tanks).

I know sea monkeys are not really the best starter pet, but it wont be much of a problem if they die. I'm sure he will end up getting sick of taking care of the fish, and then ill be stuck with them.

a 10 gallon with maybe a pair of swordtails would work good, and it is 'educational' with the fish breeding and all that

yeah but sea monkeys isn't really comparable to a fish tank..

I agree set him up a small 10g. If he ends up not caring for them properly tell him you will have to take the tank or the fish will have to go back to the lfs..

Aren't sea monkeys just brine shrimp? If so, they won't live long and require salt water. Also, when they start to die, the water will really stink. Just start with a 10 gallon and put in some guppies, swordtales etc...

I'd go with something like swordtails, only since minnows, depending on the source, are more delicate
