IRWINI Cats should be pretty cool too :D

Oh my goodness, irwini cats are absolutely awesome and huge. We have seen one about 36 inches in a tank that just fits it, a 40 by 18 tank with a 36 inch fish in. I will definitely see if it would be possible for me to rescue that one once I get a pond.

A giraffe catfish would be perfect imo. They're large growing vacuums that are fairly active and non predatory. As stated above though, I wouldn't purchase any large growing catfish until the pond is already built.

In my area, only 1 giraffe catfish is on sale. I don't even think it's a giraffe catfish but it looks so much like one.

NA flathead catfish (http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=262 if you didn't know already). Don't expect to keep it with much else other than maybe one or two other flatheads. Biggest MAY eat smallest, it's a risk you take with such an amazing catfish. They will get 30+ inches but it will take several years.

Pylodictis olivaris gets much larger than 30". The redtail was a more suitable fish for the tank mentioned.

Giraffes would be cool, vulture catfish Calophysus macropterus is a catfish that reaches a medium size. Brachyplatystoma juruense and B. tigrinus are both amazing catfish that wont get too big. However both of these really need to be kept in a tank that at least has one area that has very high flow.

Good luck with your search - there are so many amazing catfish.

.

yes they do bit they grow MUCH slower than redtails. To get one raised from young to 36" + would take at least 5 or 6 years where as redtails would take about 2 years is my guess.

although I do see your point, either one is to big on second thought. I like the idea of chaca chaca, you could do say 10 of them in such a large tank.

Sent from my ST15i using Tapatalk App I know wallago leeri and attu should both grow huge, bigger than rtcs. There should be another wallago species or something.. I remember that one being smaller.. Don't hang me up on it.

If you want large and aggressive cats, then tigrinus would be great choice alongside couple of paroon sharks, rtc hybrid and the like. If you want less aggressive giants, then irwini, giraffe cat and niger cats would be good
