I am looking for a good if not great LFS in or around central ohio i know in columbus there is a aquarium adventure and they are great but i want to know if there is anything that i am missing any other LFSs that are hiding around here and ones that are NOT petco petsmart petsuplyplus i have these all over and they have there ups and downs but i am looking for a good FISH only place

i just don't want to know that i have been to all the good ones allready i want to know that there is a sweet lil store somewhere that carries interesting stuff that the big places overlook b/c they don't sell as well but are cool to ppl who are looking for the slightly odd and interesting

i mean i can go anywhere and buy oscars and fancy goldfish i want somewhere that they cary freashwater rays, aros, rhoms, archerfish, cool plecos, you know the interesting fish that not everyone and there brother has or would want to have ;)

anyhelp would be great if not ill keep my quest alive on my own :(

i know this was posted a long time ago but i was tryin 2 find some good ohio stores and came across this. there are two places around where i live that are pretty decent. in galion there is KC's aquaworld, which is basically fish only (with a few various reptiles and such) really cool informative owner. but anyway he usually has a very good selection of the stuff that corporate stores won't stock. a lot of cichlids, tropheous, polleni, different haps, rainbows, and oddball cats every now and then. he doesn't have loads of tanks like an aquarium adventure but it's one of the better lfs i've found.
the other is a place called fishy business in bucyrus, this is a pretty small rinky-dink type store and recently went under new management (for the worse not better in terms of fish). their staff is pretty ignorant when it comes to fish (but it works out better for me as i've gotten a few synodontis as $2 plecos because thats what the guy thought they were, and some nice plecos usually of the$30-$50 variety for less than $8 because they were mislabeld) but what they do have going for them is they usually have some nice oddballs, not like under the old management which was much better, but they do get a few things in. silver aros, limas, electric cats, knifes, a nice bichir, a tsn red hybrid they can't get rid of, and some gars. the place is tiny and not real cleanly but they are USUALLY MUCH cheaper on their fish prices than corporate stores.
like i said neither place is great and i wouldn't make a special trip to them but if you're in this area they are worth checking out because their prices are good and sometimes they really have nice fish, especially KC's.

so now that i may have gotten this going, to fulfill my original search where are some other good lfs (non-corporate chains but true lfs) located in ohio? there is only about 4 that i'm aware of within a 30min drive of my house, but lets know where they're all hidden

Ok since this is my old thread I'll play along.

there is a VERY VERY small place in Upper Sandusky. It's built in with a lumber yard called Kargs supply. they have a Very small selection. But what they do have is great quality. If you need juvi angels they got some very nice ones. But that's about it. The owner of the lumber yard I think just moved his fish hobby into the store lol.

If you don't mind traveling, up here in cleveland we have aquarium adventure, they are great. Theres a little place called somethingfishy that has a really nice cichlid collection, Another called RMS Aquaculture, they are a huge fish only store, great quality and selection, both FW and SW.

If you want to know a few more nice lfs around cleveland I can hook ya up.

Ok lets expand this to OHIO.

If you can get to Bucyrus (small town) they have a LFS called Fishy business. Small store but if you build a base with the owner he cuts great deals. I work with a guy who got his fish at cost b/c he bought so much dry goods and equip.

Byerly's in Columbus was a really sweet place to go, but they've been out of business for a little while now...I wish it was still open. I'm always looking for new places to check out for hard to find species as well

I wish we had half that many places in Indy.

fishy business in bucyrus went under new ownership, which was NOT a good thing, not nearly as good. like i said i DO recoment KC's in galion good place. i've been to the upper place a few times solid little corner of fish. there is a good oddball type LFS in mansfield, been there once just at close though, only problem is they keep very odd hours. i can't remember the name i think it was like the fish mans pet store

i like aquarium adventure, it is just very pricey... keep em comin if ya know where they'r hiding
