Good News! My search is near the end... I found a reputable LFS that have nice sized female festae! Going TOMORROW!!! :woot:

Tough Decisions...

DISCLAIMER: Sorry for this very long post... but I need some input from the MFK family.

I'm already um... ahem... overstocked. Prior to locating my, err... leprechaun's pot of gold, if you will... I was figuring out who would stay, and who would be rehomed. But now, I can get my festae, and the ball game has changed. So, here's the deal. I have two 125 gallon, 6 foot tanks. I will list all fish that I have currently, that are candidates to be divided between these two tanks. Then, I will tell you the fish I really want to keep... my proposed mix, if you will, for each tank. Finally, I ask how would you stock each tank.

I know I'm asking for trouble from the "sarcastically gifted" among us. So be it. I'll ignore them. But those of you with real input, I thank you in advance. And, last note... I don't mind if the tanks are SLIGHTLY overstocked in the end result. I do over filter... trust me on that. Okay... finally, down to business. All fish I have, that are candidates to be stocked in this tank are as follows (I'm listing the female festae, because... well... I'm gonna get her):

1 Female Festae (not bought yet, but I'm getting it)
2 Lyonsi (proven pair, but bond seems to be broken at the moment)
2 Pearsi (no clue if they are male and female)
1 Oscar
1 Bocourti
1 Synspillum
1 Snook
1 Argentae
1 female Freddie (La Ceiba Yellowhead)
1 female Jack Dempsey
1 tiny female Green Terror
1 Hartwegi
1 Zonatum
2 Bumblebee Catfish
Group of assorted Rainbows

Okay. Proposed split:

125-A:

1 Oscar
1 Female Festae
1 Bocourti
1 Argentae
1 Hartwegi

125-B:

2 Lyonsi
1 Synspillum
1 Snook
1 Zonatum
Rainbow group dither

In this scenario, I rehome the 2 Bumblee Cats, the Jack Dempsey, the Green Terror, the Freddie and the 2 Pearsi. I would really like to keep the Festae, of course, and my Lyonsi pair. I do love my oscar. So... how would you all do this split? Thanks for reading this LONG post!

LOL wow Rich, i think you already figured it out;) i would do exactly what you suggested with the two tanks and of course tank "A" with the oscar and festae will need changing as they mature but in a nutshell i dont see why they wont solve your imediate problem:) good luck and i will definitely check on what you finally decide.

man thats tough and you have some nice fish in your stock but are you looking to get a pair outta your festaes because that could be bad in a 125. but i think you tanks are stocked pretty good

I know some people wont like it, but heres my two cents anyway, oscar probably not aggresive enough and Ive always had problems with 5 or 6 fish with aggresion. Its not enough as far as numbers to spead the aggresion out. you end up with one dominant fish that will terrorize everything else. its either or as they mature numbers and site breakers or pairs or solo fish and big dithers, loaches or maybe a pleco. that being said the festae is a female and nothing in there is really aggresive so it might work. most of the fish in there will just want to eat except the festae which is a female and maybe less aggressive. I like a more aggressive mix with parachromis, and others umbie , festae, midas complex ect. and with that type of group def. numbers. right now i have male umbie 8" mix with nic. dov 6+, chanco 9+, dovi/man hybrid 8" trimac, midas, cuban, 2 f jags 8", and a little m red t. mort with very little aggres. good luck.

So, I can't mix the vieja with each other then? Can I pair them down to one in each tank (don't HOW I'm going to make THAT decision... LOL...), or are you saying even with one in each tank, they are going to be a problem for the other fish in there?

I need more tanks. LOL...

-Rich

+1 on keeping a Pearsi. I'd sell one of the vieja instead. Maybe the Argentea...I hear they're horrible with other vieja type's.
