Good News!... and Tough Decisions...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
man thats tough and you have some nice fish in your stock but are you looking to get a pair outta your festaes because that could be bad in a 125. but i think you tanks are stocked pretty good
At this time, I have no intention of creating a pair with the festae. I just want the female. The only proven pair of fish I have are the lyonsi, and right now, it seems the bond was broken during the shipping process. I'm not sure yet though.

+1 on keeping a Pearsi. I'd sell one of the vieja instead. Maybe the Argentea...I hear they're horrible with other vieja type's.
I actually have a potential buyer for the argentae, and I decided if I have to part with any of my vieja, the argentae would go first. So that could work.

LOL wow Rich, i think you already figured it out;) i would do exactly what you suggested with the two tanks and of course tank "A" with the oscar and festae will need changing as they mature but in a nutshell i dont see why they wont solve your imediate problem:) good luck and i will definitely check on what you finally decide.
If you think the oscar and festae will eventually need to be separated, is there a way you'd stock them, so there would not have to be a separation made later? I'd love know your opinion on that... as well as anyone elses. You all may have a grouping idea between the two tanks that is better than anything I am thinking of.

I am not looking to get into a breeding pair mode right now. I do have a plan in place, if my lyonsi decide to re-bond, and start up a family again, though. But right now, I'm not looking at this from any other standpoint, then a community type situation, for what that means with large cichlids, anyway! LOL...

Bump for any other advice before I move forward with the rest of the rehoming and reshuffling.

I have a taker for the argentae now... torn about the pearsi. LOL... you guys think I can move the JD, the freddie, the argentae, and the catfish, and make the rest of this work? Or do I have to bite the bullet and let go of the pearsi and/or another vieja?

I'm kinda thinking maybe keep the pearsi, and let the oscar go... though I do love that big lug... but when I think about it, they are certainly a lot more easier to replace than pearsi, if I had a change of heart later. So many cool fish, so many tough decisions!

Trying to find a healthy balance with american cichlids has been a challenge to everyone for years and will for years to come. in your first tank i think after the Argentea is gone you should be fine, but every fish has its own personality too soo youll need to be ready to play an audible;) I havent been successful getting the fish i want in a community so ive resorted to pairs only and communities for growouts and only temporary. which has been very expensive for me, i wish i had only one favorite so i could have bought only a couple big tanks and spent all that money on those couple pairs instead of everything else ive spent it on lol. If you can make either tank work then enjoy it while you can because even if it works today it could be hell tomorrow... But all you can do is try it out and eventually you will get it. the best solution would be to grow them all out from small sizes but most people even myself tend to go overboard with small guys just to fill the tank lol

Point well-taken, buddy. I appreciate that point of view.

I think I'm gonna try keeping the pearsi first, and then move them if I have to.

Once I get everything situated, I'll get some more pics up. Thanks... everyone... for your words of wisdom on this.

I've had good luck keeping female festae with oscars. Maybe it was the oscars size but the featae completly ignored them. Of course breeding may change that.
