Good Nuchal Hump Growth?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My local petland has a whole tank of these 5" convicts both male and female, and theres one white male with a big hump, looks almost like a mini midas

i know, theres quite alot of convicts (especially pinks) with huge humps, i was quite shocked when i read the first reply, as i felt like id been looking at the wrong fish or something. i just naturally pressumed most people were aware they had good sized humps the older they got

My two year old mini midas in '08 before he got crushed by misplaced decor. Before I get flamed, he is not pure convict. this was the only surviving offspring of an hrpxcon breeding that took place in a tank while I was out collecting in el Salvador.

Im surpassed you had such a good looking fish from such a simple crossing (with them being quite similar) but again, it just goes to prove what beautys they can be if left to flourish for a couple of years! beautiful fish

I was really sad to lose this guy as he was very personable. When I got back from my trip, I was surprised to find the hrp male chose a female con over the female hrp. He really was a good looking fish and, after losing him, I'm kind of sad I didn't allow any of his siblings to survive.

couldnt you get another pair and breed some more? there definatley worth making a effort for. Theres a guy on here thats actually breeding HRP x con and got a few generations into the line, but there not half as nice as yours!

Just to pick your brain for a mo, would you say mine is male or female, im interested now its physical appearance is changing

Thanks for the compliments. Truthfully, I wouldn't want to breed them again. I'm not into hybrids or the confusion they cause in the hobby. No hrpxcon will ever be as nice as a true hrp. You're just washing the colors away.
As for your fish, it looks male. Female marbleds I have seen have the orangish belly.

wikid, thought as much once the hump appeared. just wanted to check as people made me feel abit unsure....

I know what you mean, most hybrids iv seen recently look horrible really, i understand why people would do it, but i think they should privately sell and leave the shops to stock pure strains. I think id blow my top if i got a hybrid after buying a true breed.
