I have been accompanying this thread and, as always, finding intelligent arguments on both sides of the barricade. But Ammerman, I live, am, in a different country and, irrespective of that, feel perfectly entitled to "whine "about that country of yours, and to whine about the circumstance that you guys have allowed that one man ( and his administration ) has so absurdly squandered the goodwill of the remaining world peoples towards the US. A magnificent country that has potential, that was and could continue to be one of the greatest countries in the world, as you mention ( in many more fields than brute force ), and that is throwing that away, increasingly. Whatever the US does, whatever whomever leads the US does, has, whether we will it or not, an enormous impact on the world.
I, as my country, fully supoported the Iraq issue ( the last pre invasion summit took place in Portugal, as you know ). I, personnally, feel cheated. Feel cheated by a man that, with absurd impunity, lied to the world and turned the world into a more dangerous place. And the part of the world that has allways been a friend to the US, feels cheated.
I feel, therefore, Ammerman, perfectly, tottally, and above all, sadly, entitled to "whine" about the current sorry state of affairs, of which your country is a major player.
