I can't find the related thread of the plastic tube on the stinger

Is this good or bad for the stingray? and reasons? thank you :D

my book on freshwater stingrays talks about this for a while. mostly used by breeders and importers to protect themselves while treating the rays at their facilities before they are shipped out for sale. i think that most of them are removed before they are sold to their rightful owners, but i dont think it hurts the rays, more of a protection issue for people who work closely with them. i dont see many of them in home aquaria with the tubing still on, kinda tacky i think, but then again most owners are smart enough to avoid being stung in the first place, so the need for the tubing isnt necessary. hope i was of help

take it off, they are on to protect from shipping. but can cause infections if left on.

how does it lead to infections?

Your best bet would be to remove the tubing once you get them into there permanent home. Its just their so they don't sting you, or pop a hole through the bag.

depends on how much of the sheath is damaged and how far the shipper puts them on ( can rub on tail) and if you add them on whenever a ray sheds a stinger you are adding stress to them

bad take the tube off

i had a ray with it on and it wouldn't feed i took it off the ray started feeding within 2 hrs

its just dam lazy for the importer to leave them on

I agree if it digs into the skin it will cause infections. IF it looks like the stinger is about to shed just wait till then.
