Good or Bad?

Take it off. I've seen a ray grow a second stinger directly into the tube. That makes it even more difficult to remove. I usually grabb it by the end with some pliers and pull on it. The longer you wait, the harder to remove.

I think they require this for exportation.. not only to protect the bag, but to protect any potential handlers (F&WL) if the ray somehow got out of the bag.

:iagree: remove it.. can lead to nasty fungal infections in that area..

Like eveyrbody else said...take it off

i have seen other fish including other rays attack the tube

Be careful when you take it off. Don't just yank it really hard until it comes loose, I've heard of serious wounds on the rays tail resulting from this. Another thing to consider is that the stinger with the plastic on it will fall off eventually anyway. So if it's too hard to remove I would leave it on, rather than stress the the ray. The thought of the next stinger growing into the plastic is scary but if there's enough space for that to happen, the plastic is probably not on that tightly and can be pulled off easily.

as stated remove it carefully...

its for easy handing and doesn't cut the fish bag.

i'll take if off if you can, you dont want a plastic tube on your ends either :D
