good pellets for gar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm glad you haven't had any problems. It just isn't something I would recommend.
60 gars ? Holy cow.
in the wild, many adult gars do scavenge off the bottom river! the only problem is some piece of food might be a bit hard for a gar to grab at the bottom of the tank!

I've heard that when gars eat of the bottom it will bend their snout over a long time period. Do they make floating massivore?

it's small gars that being kept in a tank too big, they can build up speed(especially when freak out) and bang their head into the wall/glass lead to broken back, nose. And those injuries can kill them or follow them to the rest of their life.

That's not a great idea, for a couple of reasons - first, he could swallow gravel by mistake, or worse yet, he could harm his snout by banging against the bottom of the tank, or a rock, etc.

yeah, this doesn't really happen. as kevin stated in his experience as well, i have never had issues with gars eating off the bottom. in fact, i mainly feed sinking feed to my largest gars because they are in tanks with overflows. our lab gars currently feed from all levels. in keeping hundreds of gars at this point (Richard/Polypterus can attest to this too), we've never had any damage issues, so it is unnecessary and inaccurate to advise against feeding sinking foods--

Thanks to both of you - I learned something here - That said, I've never seen any of my gars even try it. (Some Youtube videos show it, though.)

I use the hikari sticks for mine. They are easy to swallow and close to same content as massivore.

NLS, and recently Massivore. now that they eat NLS they will spit out anything hikari other then mass unless they are really hungry.
