I would spend at least $10.00 on one because if they fail, so does your tank inhabitants. Walmart is a good place to buy them because even if it has tire tracks on it, you can still return it. You dont need one that has a high jewel reading because you are not dealing with computer equiptment that will be damaged by a surge. Some people may dissagree with me but I have 15 power strips running and all mine are fine through out a lightning storm here in Texas. If you want a power strip with auto shut offs for lighting or co2 buy your coralife timer power strip at Petsmart. They have the best prices for them surprisingly. $24.00 compared to LFS prices at $40.00. Thats my 2 cents!
I use the computer power center boxes that typically have 5 outlets, each with its own switch. That way I can turn off just the lights, or just one filter, etc, with the flip of a switch. I get them on sale at CompUSA for $10-$15.
