A sump is a box to put stuff in, an old barrel is just as good as any brand name sump, I have used a 100 gallon rubbermaid horse trough as a sump, (it worked great) as did an old scratched up tank, or just about anything that holds enough water permanently can be a sump.
I had out door tanks in Milwaukee, and used my pond as a sump
above a 50 gallon barrel sump, below an old scratched up 75 as a sump
below, a 55 gal tank, with a few hundred gallon pond as a sump
below a commercial sump, is it better than the barrel because its commercial? Nope....
