Good Quiet Filter - HOB or Cannister???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My Fluval canisters are very quiet. The eheims are even more so but it's almost unnoticable either way. The E400's...and I have a LOT of them running...are quiet for HOB units but they all make a splashing sound from the waterfall returns. The AC's can be quiet but its a bit hit or miss...this is due to the impeller magnet clearance.

IMO your best bet for quiet is a good canister in an enclosed stand.

:) Have a new Rena xp3 and is great on my 90g community tank. Like being in the library.

In general most of your canisters will be very quiet. This is due to the ability to avoid all surface agitation.

try an aquaclear brand filter, ime, increbibly silent, i could put my ear up to mine and as long as the water is high enough i can't hear them running.

:iagree:
Your best bet is on a canister filter. I personally have xp series of canister filters running in my turtle tanks. They have been working for ever and are easy to maintain. Sometimes you can get the filters on sale too.

Hobs...are nice but your will alway have the noise of a waterfall in you home.

Good luck & let us know what you are going to get. :naughty:

Just buy an Eheim Pro-II 2026. You'll never hear it. Sure it's expensive, but you get what you pay for. Hands down the best canister filters :) I love their new modular spray bars!
