No don't get a 10 gallon, that's too small. Get at least a 20.

agreed....a pair might work out for a brief time in a 10 gallon when they are very small but remember that a male con can get to 5-6", some slightly larger. long term I wouldn't do anything smaller than a 29.

Ihave had my small convicts around 1.5 inches breed in a 3.5 gal tank that was ment as a cricket keeper... they are very hardy and quite honestly breed as long as they are in any kind of tank set up. A 10 gal. tank is more than enough for convict to live and breed. you may need to go to a 20 gal though if they actualy grow more than 3 or so inches.

When you buy them a 2 inch they usually reach 3 inch a month after you bought them, if you take good care of them. Maybe it takes 2 months, but you still need (at least) a 20 very soon.:)

Convicts are wonderful little fish and great parents but they breed like bunnies. Since I doubt that your going to keep them all a 20 Gallon or a 29 Gallon should be fine. Just remember though that the males eventually get to be a stocky bump headed 6 or 7 inch monster who are anywhere from fairly to extremely aggressive. But he will not be mean to his girl. They really bond tight and it's kind of cute to watch them interact.
