So I am picking up a skimmer today. Could not pass it up for the price!!!! It is a Berlin Classic rated for 250 gallons. Just needs a pump.

is it the turbo berlin by red sea?

It is the Berlin Classic Venturi Model (By Red Sea). Just need to get a pump for it. Was given to me by another local and am very grateful for it. I am probably going to get the Rio 2500 as per his recommendation for it.

i used a belin and didnt like it. I had little control over the type of foam being made from wet to dry and it didnt take out very much crud unless i was skimming very wet. I switched to an aquaC EV series and i lose about 4 gallons worth of skimmate a week. Thats some serious skimming. My next skimmer is going to be a aquaC EV300

for any in sump skimmer the compartment the skimmer is placed in should have a controled water level for consistent operation. This means your first glass baffle should be 3-4 inches taller the all the rest. This creates an overflow but also mean the water will be the same height at all times. No flucuations in water level, no flucuations in skimmer operation.

I am putting the skimmer in the first compartment of the sump. The level never drops in this compartment. I was not planning on spending a lot of money on a skimmer and ended up getting this one for free from another local reef keeper that was breaking down a tank. I am going to use it and make it work as I am sure it will be much better than what I could have bought for the money I could have spent (seaclone or something else in this price range) and will definitely be better than nothing. I am not sure what you mean by (creates an overflow) but I have it in the sump and it seems to no change the way the sump oporates at all. The skimmer will dump the skimmed water into the next compartment. I am not familiar with skimmers so I will have to expeiment with it once I get the pump for it.

what he means is, the skimmer has a chance to push water up and over the collection cup. kinda like that lava experiment we all did in school;)
I heard alot of guys in my neck of the woods put a ball valve on the intake side or something. this regulates the water going into the thing and you can up the air as well. check out other saltwater sites...should have some threads up on the DIY sections. good luck.

Berlins will work as long as you take your time to dial it in.

BTW: sweet is right on! AquaC is perfect on my tank too!
