Good Snakehead Substitute?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think a red wolf or a good wolf. Probably be better as their pretty active. Always on the move and hunting for food. I visit India once in a while. My grandparents live 20 feet from a river down south in India. Snakeheads are everywhere. Too bad can't keep 'em in the US.

Actually there is some betta species that looks like a snakehead. One species even named after the snakehead.

Some of the wild type mouthbrooding bettas are very snakehead like, in fact distant cousins and if a bowfin is too large, they are probably right size (in fact very small)
this is Betta albimarginata from Borneo

and Betta edithae

I keep edithae with grow out cichlids

Or polypterus, bichirs, they are also snakelike but not aggressive really to anything that's too big enough to eat. They do death roll like gators if they're trying to rip a chunk off a piece of tilapia or something

You could get the most common being Senegal, albino or reg. Others that'd work would be mokelembembe, delhezi, any of the Palmas complex or retropinnis. First pic is a palma's polli, second pic is of a delhezi with a palma's buettokoferri under it
