Kenyansandboa>My family owned a sporting goods store for 37 years before walmarts put us out of buisiness.Any who i always like bass pro shop for ordering on line.My dad was a fishing guide.I hold five large mouth bass massachusetts records and two pickerel.Since your a local fish friend i would be willing to take you and your girl to a few "secret spots"just tell no one and its catch and release.I can give you a 90 percent chance of catching a bass over 5 lbs.I have caught the second biggest bass in mass at 15 lbs 2 oz missed the state record by two ounces..glad you had fun on your trip.

yep, you could get a separate rod that would be more heavy duty and suited for fishing for larger pike but you don't need one, my grandma landed her 27lb northern on a med-heavy action rod with 8lb line while fishing in a walleye tournament.
Thanks again, Danyal. :D

I love the ugly stick have 3 of them and love them no complaints at all but their reels I will never buy again .
Just wanted to mention the reel part as they sell rod/reel combos
So is the reel on the combo junk? The one I saw was like $30, and that was a combo...

Sorry to hear about that...WalMart is definitely responsible for putting a lot of mom and pop shops out of business.

That would be AWESOME if you showed me the hot spots!!! I can guarantee both secrecy and catch and release. I didn't know you held records...that's freaking sweet!! :headbang2

i also give fly fishing lessons and fly tieing lessons if you like..
I'll definitely consider that. Is fly fishing mainly for trout?

Kenyan,

Glad you had a good trip up here! It was a rather dreary week in June though. How were the bugs?

I didn't know there are pike in Great Moose! Did you get a picture by any chance? They are not native to Maine. I fish for them in another lake and have lots of fun catching them. I would definately use a steel leader for them.

Did you see the new Cabelas? Right next to the interstate a few miles south of Portland. I went in a few weeks back and had to buy another reel...

oh for brands of rods i also like the ugly stick or shimano and i love penn reels.

:iagree:

I am a big fan of Ugly Sticks. I have used them for a long time and now don't use anyting else. I have seen the combos they sell, I never buy them though, I usually get the rod I want and then buy the reel I want separate.

for the rod definately an ugly stick. one of my first few rods. i do alot of fishng on lake erie and on ontario but i mix it up and hit the smaller creeks and even ponds but that rod tangled with many monsters and it was still fun to go out crappie fishing with. the biggest thing is to not skimp on the reel. you will definately appreciate it when you hook into something unexpectedly.
