By the Beach!
I'm in the process of saving money to buy a big tank for my SAL and I have a few questions on what kind of tank would be best. I was orginally planning on buying a 180g (6x2x2) but after looking around I've seen some wider tanks that were shorter so my question is would a lungfish prefer a standard tank like listed above or something that was wider but a bit shorter like 60x30x24 (LxWxH)? Thanks!!!

yea just listen to King El,he has 39" SAL and smaller 1s

The 180 is 12 sq feet.
The other tank is 12.5 sq feet.

Lung fish hang out on the bottom so the depth of the tank doesn't really matter and far as gallons are concerned.

In my opinion it's a wash pick what ever tank fits the space you have available in the house. If you really want to split hairs go with the 12.5 sq foot because it's just a little more room.

I've got my 36"er in a 135 long. He's actually much more active than in the 240. THey really don't require much space. He curls up in the corner and most people don't notie he's in there until I put some food in.

Nice tank you got there. What fish are in with the Lung? As I notice a Anabantid/Characin-like fish.

As for the OP, it would also depend if the SAL will be a solo job or a comm tank. If the latter, you'll need something bigger to support the bioload.

You could keep it in a 75 if it is solo. Think of it like an eel, not like an arowana or comparably bulky monster.

Thanks AU, that is actually my old tank, I'll have to take pics of it with it's current decore and tankmates. That fish above the SAL is a Green aro, although there is a Kingsley's ctenopoma in there too (or was).

could I keep a sal in a 125 long? 6'x1.5'
Are they ok with tankmates?
