Goonch 4 month update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
By looking at its mouth shape, eyes position, tail shape, and spots distribution, your goonch very similar to mine, I think your goonch probably a LLG Bagarius yarelli.
I have both LLG and sp. Indochina, and sp. Indochina doesn't look like that.
And I'll bet your goonch grow very fast too :)

Yes it has been growing fast. It has been changing and it has looked like 3 sp of goonch. Lol. It was labeled "dwarf Indian goonch" so if it is from India then LLG would fit. Yet at the same time the person got others in labeled "Thai goonch". Of the goonch he got in looks like he got at least 3 sp of goonch. Mine has had and does still have green in it and the black spots seem to cluster into groups of " dalmation like patterns". I am far from an expert on these cats, witch is why I am asking for continued thoughts on what sp it is. I know one thing for sure....its a goonch...

How big a tank will it be kept in?

Once it is out of/big enough for my 180gal it will be there. Then once both are finished it will be in either my 600 or 2000 gal setups.

Any new thoughts on ID Rob?

Now that the fish is settled and stable, we can see crazy fast growth, minimal spotting, straight profile from the dorsal fin origin to the tip of the snout, huge, nearly terminal mouth, round eyes, distinct cheek tubercles.

That fish is a lowland giant, Bagarius yarrelli.

Shoutout to horopgedrik horopgedrik for getting it right. :)

gorak gorak what shop did you get him from?

Thanks for the positive ID. One of those things that is good to have when dealing with huge growing fish. Lol.

Can't wait until everything is done and it is in the pond, then I can feed it whole suckers I get from bowfishing.. :)

T Thekid I got it from a local shop named "underwater dreams"
