goonch and rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a retic ray with a 8 inch golith and people say thats not a good mix ether along with a 7 inch armatus with 2 c.gibbuses at 5 to 6 imch with no problems. Ive mixed a spoted rolf ,commem wolffish and a needle nose gar in witha shole of 7 rbps and still had no problem.... so what im saying is alot of people say these combos wont work but they did.

thanks for everyones comment but can I get anymore or anyone that has had a goonch in the past?

Yes this can be done, i've seen it for myself with my own eyes. I'm not going into details as who owns both fish, if he likes he can say for himself. But I'm saying this will work as long as the goonch does not surpass the ray in size. Goonch will have to be fed and not starved, and you can easily keep the temp. around the high 70s to low 80s so that both fish remain comfortable.

I APPROVE THIS MIX:thumbsup:

and for those who haven't kept these fish together or haven't kept them at all... you need to stop saying it won't work. And start saying "Try it out". I didn't join MFK to hear people always saying "its not going to work" GO MONSTER, OR GO HOME!

Good question, I joined MFK just for questions like this. Why potentially risk a fish when you can just ask some folks that have kept one or the other or even both fish.

I have a Goonch so I can speak to that. They need cold water. Sure you can keep them in warm water and you can keep saltwater fish in fresh water but it's not optimum and the Goonch will not thrive in these conditions.

Goonch temps are best in the low 70's as a max. Rays are best in the mid 80's.

Rays will out compete the Goonch for food.

Goonch is a very slow grower, most likely it will die in the warm water way before it outgrows the rays.

Not worth the risk IMO.

So this could work for a little, but would end up in the result of a very unhappy goonch in the long run.

thank you two for the help, its helped alot. what size tank do you have your goonch in? sorry I dont really know about catfish, I tend to stay away from them in the hobby but I wanna try something new :)

In my opinion, yes. I think they can survive in warmer water but not thrive.

Pics of the goonch? I dont think ive ever seen one in the aquarium setting.
