Goonch catfish aquarium size

Hi everyone, what is a recommended size aquarium for a 6 inch Goonch catfish? I found one at a fish store not so far from me for $200. I have a 180 Gallon fish tank right now and I know that will not be enough but how long will I be able to keep the fish in that aquarium by itself?
 
they get over 6 foot in the wild! will need 1000g+ and will kill tankmates.. if your planning this buy away!-)
 
what species? only 1 species of the goonch family grow to over 6ft, the other won't even reach 4ft in the wild and the smallest grow to about a foot long I think.

I'm not sure what species it is but, do you know all the species there are? If you do, please name them because I want to get one that I can keep forever. What's the name of the species that doesn't grow over 4 ft. in the wild?

I see you're in Cali. Is the store you saw them at Tongs? If it is, those goonches are HLG. I just got one as well, not from them though, and so far I love it!

What is the appeal on these guys? They only move when you feed them and you can not even keep anything with them... I am kind of confused why people would spend this much money on a fish that does nothing.... I understand that this is "monsterfishkeepers" but that is kind of ridiculous.
Someone please explain it.

To each his own kid. Even though they do nothing, i love them. Majority of people on here are hardcore into cichlids and I personally could care less about them. I'd only keep them as feeders for my other fish.

Edit: just so you know, you can keep them with others. There's plenty of videos in YouTube of people cohabing them and mine is currently sharing a tank with 3 payara's and an aba aba knife.

there's a very nice thread about GOONCH articles here recently, check it out. very informative. Bagarius yareli is the largest to grow in the wild. bagarius bagarius i think max only a foot long.
