To each his own kid. Even though they do nothing, i love them. Majority of people on here are hardcore into cichlids and I personally could care less about them. I'd only keep them as feeders for my other fish.

Edit: just so you know, you can keep them with others. There's plenty of videos in YouTube of people cohabing them and mine is currently sharing a tank with 3 payara's and an aba aba knife.

I totally agree with u, I can't stand having a tank full of cichlids, they all look like feeder fish to me, I prefer giant monster fish like aros or pimas or bichirs, bichirs r my favorite

If you have a big enough tank, I'd say go for it! I just got mine on Friday and even though it hasn't eaten yet, I freakin love it!

Haha I'm addicted to bichirs! Actually, when this guy gets bigger, he'll be goin in a 150 with a bunch of them

What is the appeal on these guys? They only move when you feed them and you can not even keep anything with them... I am kind of confused why people would spend this much money on a fish that does nothing.... I understand that this is "monsterfishkeepers" but that is kind of ridiculous.
Someone please explain it.
Where did you get such information like "they only move when you feed them and you can not even keep anything with them" or "a fish that does nothing?" You need to keep a fish in order to understand it. Noone can get you to understand anything by just a simple explaination...

+1 my goonch cats are very friendly with their neighbors. Just as everything you just have to keep them fed. Mine all eat massivore and don't even touch my other fish. Including the Mahseer (its natural meal) I have kept many species of bagarius. There are a lot of good threads OP in articles on here. All of the information you could want to know is a search away on this forum.

For now my 26" goonch in a 150 gallon tank but I might try him in my 450 gallon in the next few days and see if he plays nice with the stingrays. When I bought him at 21" he was in a 230 gallon and I had to move him as my growouts had to go in a bigger tank so he got the boot to the 150 gallon. If he works out with my rays I may keep him but I am also growing out a smaller one to go with my rays.

I am not suggesting a 150 gallon is fine but it's working for now until I decide what to do with my beast.
