what has been the tankmate history of goonch cats? have they been know to be overly aggressive toward them or are they ok with things like gar, bowfin and other larger catfish?

i am thinking of putting one with my vatf. the vatf is 9" and the goonch will be 6". anyone with any goonch aggression experience?

The VATF has elongate body, may fit very well into the goonch mouth to be expensive feeder

Where are you getting one from? I would love to have one but can't find them anywhere.

From what I've read, Thai fish are hardier and calmer than Indian fish. Indians are the ones who will kill everything in your tank then die for no apparent reason. I had a yarrelli a few years back but lost it in a major power outage in the middle of winter. He was a Thai fish and seemed pretty levelheaded. He didn't bother anyone.

They need cold fast running water so probably not. Also I suggest buying bagarius bagarius the dwarf goonch. They only get like one foot, and that means less aggression.

just like any catfish you wanna put other larger and aggressive fish in with them. there a coold water fish so I dont think the tiger fish would work anyways.

Ill need to check on those im looking for a kick ass catfish that grows out to around a foot

i was thinking that, once the goonch got larger it could take the vatf out. i was thinking till i could get my frontosas into the tigerfish tank then i could put the goonch on its own. my fronts are just too small to go with the tigerfish right now. what size would the goonch be able to eat the vatf? should i go off of flathead cat size?

what size tank? that fish has been on animal planet! 0.0

right now since it is 6" it would be in a 40breeder or a 125gal. within a year to year and a half i will be in a house and have ponds going. i don't know the species of that goonch yet.

can't say were i am getting it from yet because they only have one. i can't get it till this friday. i am not sure on the location i have them looking into that right now, all i know at this point is it is a goonch. i would like to get a dwarf goonch, but i would take it if it isn't. thanks for the info.

just because it stays smaller dosen't mean it will be less aggressive. i will have ponds with arapimas so the future size is a non-issue. i could make a goonch pond. feeding it would also be a non-issues because i can get lots and lots of fresh fish any time of year for free.

they don't "need" currents and cold water. tigerfish is aggressive and bigger, but the goonch may out grow it sooner then my ponds. that is my main concern.

they are awesome fish and i have been thinking about one for a while.

i also have a 180gal. i wasn't sure if i would want to put it in there because of the other fish in there. i have florida gars, longnose gars, shortnose gar, cuban gar, channel cat, south american lungfish, bowfin, ornate bichir and an IT dat. all of them are quite large so i am torn on if the goonch would be fine in that tank or just plain out competed.
