goonch catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think going off of flatheads would be a safe bet. these fish have a surprisingly large mouth; mine could open its mouth roughly large enough to eat something its same.diameter. great fish, i hope to have knew again someday

ok well i got some info back on the cat. it is an Indian goonch, not a Tai goonch. it is 7", the vendor said when little they were nasty and wicked aggressive, but as it grows it will calm down. i am getting a hell of a deal on it so this is sweet.i'll have it midday friday. finally found one locally that i saved on shipping and it was from a connection so i saved retail(long time friend that happens to be a lfs manager).

no, i ship some though. nothing international though. this was the only goonch they had or i would have gotten more and then sold them at this lower rate to help mfks monster collectors. this was the first goonch in the last 10+ years available locally.

The aggression is heavily dependent on the tank size. PM arapaimag for info - he will tell you much of what you need to know from his own experience - his goonches went from 100 gal step by step to 52,000 gal.

Man Id sell all the fish I own except my GATF to have another goonch. GATF + goonch in an enormous tank with ridiculous amounts of current is my dream tank.

My experience with my Yarelli that is 12" now is not a very active fish. I would say its a peaceful fish that is never shown me any aggression toward any fish. It sits in one place most of the time 24/7. Only swims when the tank is pitch dark but even then it doesn't swim that much. He eats only live feeders when one swims close to its mouth and only when its hungry.I keep lots of feeders in the tank so he eats them when ever he wants to. I kept him with my Goliath tiger when he was only 5". The tiger is now about 9". I also keep a school of Widebar dollars with my goonch. My goonch actually got picked on by my dollars when I first put him in with them. Got his tail and pictorial fins chewed on. I almost separated him but left him in there and now the dollars leave him alone. I say you can keep most any fish with him as long as there at least halve the goonches length. And they don't spend all there time on the bottom where he's at. Oh and the tank is 100 gallons.
