Got a leaker 100 gallon for free. Need to fix it.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank looks cool, but why the two pieces for the bottom, wouldn't this make it weaker? I'm not an engineer, by the way. LoL

Thats a really odd looking tank.I like the idea of adding a piece of glass over the seam for support.Ive found scotchbrite pads work well for getting the last of the silicone residue off the glass

I also agree. A strip of glass over that joint in the bottom will make it much stronger.

Okay; I say clean all the seams (inside) with a razor, get a 2 inch wide strip of glass for the bottom seam & put it on with silly-cone (overlap 1 inch each side) & re-seal everything. Butt-Joints suck to re-seal. :swear: but the strip should make it easier.

Is that back corner broken out where the over-flow is? :WHOA: it looks like there is a break-out.

from the pics it looks do-able. good luck.

I'll try the 2 inch glass piece.

That overflow part is cut out. There is a circle cut out. Looks like the guy ran his filter plumbing through there. There is a piece of something covering it up right now. I'm going to try and get this done tonight and fill it up later this week.

i have a leaking tank as well and was wondering can you use ne type of silicon or is there special non toxic ones thanks

Use GE 1 clear Silicone. Home Depot has it.

I filled up the tank last night. No leaks this morning at all. I'll let it sit for a couple more days and then drain it.

OK, the leaky tank is now up and running. I let it sit in my garage for about 10 days completly full of water. I brought it to the basement, put some play sand in and filled it up. 3 days up and running. The filter is really not big enought for this tank but I am letting it cycle anyway.

I will take some pics tonight and post them. I also built a 12 dollar stand for it. Seriosly, 12 bucks in suplies from Home Depot. :)
