I use aquaclear 50's on my 20 gallons it works excellent. However without knowing stocking and decor its tough to recommend a filter / optimal setup. I can tell you that the Aqua clears will save you a ton of money on cartridges compared to the penguins and emperors.Tropicalfishking;3530560; said:

I think that I will go with a 100watt heater as I'm in the basement, it gets cooler in the winter. I always bye the heater with my size tank on the lower side of the recomendations on the bax.
Right now I have a Aqueon filter and something else on it. The aqueaon filter is 100GPH, and I don't know the other. I'll look at the aquaclears.

I like the idea of the small shell dwelling cichlids. What kind would work in a 20g for life, Ones with some color, good persanality?
