Got a new 225 acrylic tank, have some questions

So got in a new 225 acrylic tank. It looks absolutely beautiful. However I noticed one corner in the back left where the back and left panel meet the bottom panel. Pics attached. Looks like there is a small area where it didn't bond fully?

I sent pics to the manufacturer and they said that sometimes the two part bonding agent shrunk while curing and that it's nothing to worry about. Just wanted to get other opinions also.

Not much to worry about IMO but u never know also, bad adhesion never gets “better”. I did build a tank myself with the same 2 part epoxy they most likely used (weld-on 40) had a similiar issue. It did eventually spread over the years leading to full seam seperation. I would not be satisfied with purchasing a brand new tank like that. Im sure it was not cheap. Id request a new one or a discount. Thats just bad business IMO, should have never passed inspection. Could it last a lifetime like this, sure… u paid for a perfectly new tank tho which u did not receive. Atleast u have a liftime warranty.

Hmm, ya, this leaves me a bit uneasy lol.

And ya it wasn't cheap, was $2500 built to order.

My concern is with it failing and having 225 gallons all over the floor.

In all honesty i have more gallons riding on worse seams i wouldn’t worry about. $2500 for nothing less than perfection is some bs tho on the makers part. U paid for all those nice rounded edges and everything. Id ask for at least $500 back at the least. Nothing to lose sleep over. Just not right on their part.

Ya thanks, and I completely agree. However my immediate concern is with reliability and structural strength of this tank. The other seems are perfect. You can barely even tell they are separate panels.

Just this one corner had this issue. What they also did (what I love) is they poured some Weldon on all sides of the tank on the inside (much like the tip and pour method).


So, no issues then?

How thick is the acrylic and what are the dimensions? Standard 225 72Lx24Wx30H? It looks like one wall panel is 3/4" and the other 1/2" maybe?

Reason I ask is I'd be a lot more concerned if this was a tall 225 (30"+) high vs. A shorter wider 225. A taller tank will have some bow in the long panel even at 3/4" thickness, which over time can lead to or exacerbate seam problems ime, and whether or not that corner is even slightly defective could be a factor in a failure.

Who is the manufacturer? Not American aquariums by any chance?

Hi,

The tank is 72Lx30Wx24H
All the panels are suppose to be 1/2 thick per the build.

And the manufacturer is not American aquariums. Would like to leave them anonymous for now.

Nice. Good dimensions. I am less nervous about it at that height. Still not nothing though. I would say try and negotiate for a discount, but they will most likely lean on their warranty and say it is fine as is.
