Got burned by Cichlids of the Americas

I literally have no dog in the fight, but I would also be disappointed/suspicious if I took the time, effort and money to order a pure midas and received the fish on left. I wouldn't go as far to say that it isn't, but it does seem to be exhibiting traits not generally associated with pure midas.

I would be more gentle with my words personally, I've had nothing but great interaction with Dan at CotA. He has been friendly, polite and professional, along with providing VERY high quality stock. At the top of this section there is a sticky titled potential case of f1 midevil. Defending the possibility of this occurring in the wild. Furthermore, my own female midas looks the same as yours and absolutely is not a midevil. Just please do some more research and be mindful of the way you choose to approach one of the most well liked vendors by members of this site. You will find people who were mad when a person sells in the kind of volume that Dan does.View attachment 1210501

I'd hold off on the harsh feelings for a few months. I got two a few months ago and would have sworn they were both devils, which I don't care for. One is looking more Midas by the day and the other has turned chunky, got a Nuchal hump, and got much taller - now would never be confused for anything but a Midas

I've dealt with Dan tons of times and have always found him to be polite, informative and easy to deal with. I agree 100% with Duane on this one. Don't jump to conclusions, especially with the midas/labiatum complex. This is why I stick to CA's that you can clearly tell if hybridization has occurred. By bringing this into a public forum and bashing a respected seller you have kind of painted yourself into a corner. Popcorn anyone?

So would you pay for DNA testing?

I think you should give your vendor/s the benefit of the doubt, unless you have some background in ichthyology and a specialty with the genus and/or DNA test.
