GOT Filamentosum?! GOT Mekong?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice! I should be getting mine in next week. Getting a fila and a jurense.

Its pretty easy to differentiate between a Mekong and a ID shark. The mekong has a much much thicker body at that size than an ID shark and the mouth is far larger as well as the dorsal fin being closer looking to a paroon shark than an ID shark. I don't know any other specific ways to tell them apart but I'm sure there are alot more technical ways to do so. They aren't as spastic as ID sharks are either.

The goslinea is very active thus far, its eating feeders currently until I get it beefed up a little and try to convert it but it stays near the output of the filter and swims laps across the tank most of the day and night ~Trent

They look a lot like baby paroon sharks. I've heard that a lot of paroon sharks are getting miss id'd as mekongs at customs and it's hard to get any in because of it.

damnnn a piraiba those r awesome!
they do get rediculously huge though... i hope u have a 20,000 gallon for the future ;)

Here is a quick update, I will take some better pics over the next week but a few teasers to start with. The Mekong's are at the DWA not mine and sorry for the pic quality, I was testing my new camera and couldn't get the shutter speed right and the iso was all jacked up so it is super grainy on the Mekong pictures but there were about 300 of those little guys up there in quarantine.

The Piraiba(filamentosum) is about 3-4" and doing great, I also picked up a Goslinea Platynema and its about 7" and both are feeding well already. Earlier in the week I got a baby RTCxTSN 2" and a Juruense 3-4" that are growing out with the piraiba. Enjoy!~Trent

Awesome Cats. Where did you get the filamentosum?

Thanks for all the compliments yall. I am working on getting better pictures but right now my piraiba hides under the driftwood making picture taking difficult. I did catch him blazing across the tank chasing feeders tonight but when I got the light turned on and camera ready I barely got a shot in before he retreated under the wood again. Hopefully he will get used to the tank and become more outgoing shortly with time and size :)

Jay you got pm.
