He finds food just fine. He spends most of his time at the bottom of the tank, sifting the sand for food. He enjoys company of other small, peaceful fish so I keep him with my female bettas.
I can't say he enjoys their company because he feels "lonely" but he uses them to notify him of when and where there is food and/or danger or whatever they percieve as danger (like the siphon hose for waterchanges).
He notices where they are and when they all rush to the top of the water from all areas of the tank I guess he senses it and knows it's feeding time. The girls eat at the top and he eats at the bottom so I'm always sure to let some food go to the bottom for him.
When he's alone he's much more shy and much more hesitant of exploring. For that I've always kept him with other fish and he's always done so much better.
