hahaha
4 foot jardini

I just bought the new record cheapest flowerhorns at PetCo today. I dont have pics but it has the dorsal fin flowing behind its tail. Its maybe 2 inches.

It cost me a whopping...$2.49.

Apparently they came in labeled as jaguars and the guy was like no they ain't jaguars thats a firemouth or a green terror. I just sat there and looked at the pricetag for a firemouth and tried really hard not to smile and just nod in agreement.

And my girlfriend was like "that looks just like your flowerhorn, why are you afraid to tell them they are wrong and thats not what it is?"

I was like because it cost me 2.50.

She was like ooooooh...haha. That guy's weird...

But flowerhorns for 2.50 at petco when hes working!!!!

Here are some bad pics of them in the 10g QT. Look alot like flowerhorns but I have never seen actual trimacs at this size. Does anyone have some 1-2" trimac pics?

is that your flowerhorn or trimac? (balton)

lol I get the point. It's hard to tell and there's a LOT of skepticism and for good reason. I can only go on the word and knowledge of my breeder who happens to be Jeff Rapps. Bderik, just grow them out for a while and you'll know for sure. I think you said earlier it doesn't matter either way you'll like them so cool.

WOW THATS what a trimac fry looks like????? It has that shimmer to it!

None of mine look like that. Mine have heavy red on fins and not at all that deep green.

Yes really I had no idea (its sad) none of the trispot cichlids look like those. They are flowerhorns.

thanks for posting that pic balton that really explains it all.

is this a flowerhorn then?

those look just like my fh's, mine are red dragon zz's, don't know too much about fh's but i do know they are hybrids, and i think trimacs are one of the fishes used to create fh's, prbly why they look alike lol i would post this in the hybrid forum they can prbly help out a little more

cool fish, colours could show alot more w/age, they say you never really know w/fh's unless they're super colourfull as fry

good luck!

Here's a Petsmart "Trimac" that I had for a short time:

I didn't know what it actually was at the time because I have no experience with Trimacs or FHs. I was quickly told on here that it was definitaley a FH because of all the pearls.

I think you should keep them even if they turn out to be FHs, because those are sweet fish too. I just didn't keep mine because it was in a 55, and I wanted to replace it with something that could live in that tank for life.
