Got me some ammonia!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lol you guys are a trip. I got the right stuff. $2 I'll spare the urine this time...
The whole point of this is to set up th bacteria in the biological media to help fight ammonia and nitrites when you do get fish right? It's ok I'm bit ready nor do I know what kind of fish I want so waiting for cycle is a benefit to me.

I'd feel safer adding urine to the water than ammonia bought in a store (unless it was from a laboratory supply store).

I agree that cycling with fish can be done as long as one is very, very careful.
That made me think of the movie Red Dawn.......

wow thats sig worthy. haha :screwy:

Putting urine in the tank seems kind of crazy until you realize that your fish do it all the time.

What ammonia did you wind up using ?
What test kit are you using ?
I use API kits and I must wait the required 5 minutes after adding both components to get an accurate reading.
edit: If you add anything maybe one teaspoon. A tablespoon would be a ton.
1 TBSP = 3 TSP

The Janitorial Strength Ace brand Ammonia suggested has two ingredients... Water & Ammonia... There is no need to create a false fear in people of using it.

I agree, but it requires a ton of work doing a ton of water changes... No nee dto discourage people from taking it easy on themselves...

whoa, no need for chemicals. just put in a raw prawn.

Adding the above recommended Ammonia adds nothing but ammonia & water... adding food adds a ton of other chemicals in the form of byproducts of biodegredation...

Thinking chemicals only come in bottles is innaccurate thinking...

If you really want ammonia, just pee in your tank, why buy when it is free?

This is ignorant advice. There are tons of pollutants in urine besides ammonia. And byproducts of human digestion does not create the same byproducts as fish digestion...

No offense to anyone here, but there has been some terrible advice offered in this thread... With the exception of what DawnMarie has offered... he's one bright cookie ;)

Stop , I'm blushing.
Oh yeah, the check's in the mail.
