got Mekong?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could try and get a Wels catfish.....they can get longer than a mekong and maybe heavier.

People in Europe can get the wels and I think there might be some who have one here in the states, I know of one person that has one here in the US.

These are banned from import, but ocassionally they do make their way in. Mekongs are endangered and all endangered species are banned from import under cites. Under special circumstances endangered species can be imported on special permit, but good luck getting one unless you are a public aquarium or scientific institution trying to save the species.

oooohhh...=/ i think u'll need a lake to own a mekong=/ hahhahaha.. just wishful thinking. . . =s

You're in the phillipines, it's probably much easier for you to own this type of catfish than most of us. I've heard that importation bans are unheard of in the phillipines, and I think there are several members that have Brachyplatystoma filamentosum there. I'm really jealous of our Asian members. They have access to some of the fish i can only dream of.

i cant find (or see) any mekong catfish selling (at LFS) in my country, Malaysia.

even if it does.... i cant keep it the rest of his life, therefor, i would not buy too.

too many pics frm internet bout all the giant mekong, too big, bigger than arapaima (size, not length), all awesome. :)

yeah, they pretty much disregard every laws here:/ hahaha... although i haven't seen one..=| i guess it's the weather here that makes fish keeping really popular and i think the climate helps too:) i think i was redundant=/ haha.

anyway, i wouldn't just pick up a mekong if i see one... i couldn't raise it as of now... maybe when i get a bit older.... i'll pray that they wouldn't be extinct then.. or much better, that they'd be out of the endangered list...

just a thought... i think i said earlier in this forum that i wish they could breed these guys in farms.... i'm taking that back now...@_@ don't want em to end up like the RTCs which are very much available to anyone especially to those who can't house em...=/
