One of my LFS - a privately run Ma-and-Pa shop does 20% off all fish on Sundays, so I had to go buy dogfood anyway and I ended up getting a good deal - a pair of 2" Texas cichlids and a 2" Green Severum for $10. Great deal, right?

Well, i'm content and I don't expect much care or husbandry to be different from other SA/CAs I have or owned in the past but is there anything specific I need to know about Severums since this is my 1st time?

Any input at all is welcome.

Really, your first severum? They have a lot of personality and can usually be housed in a community tank or mildly agressive CA Cichlids. I currently have a green severum pair in my 100g and a female severum with my geos. Kinda have an angelfish personality I guess but a bit tougher. They are somewhat susceptible to HITH, but not very IMO. They may get stressed eventually if they are around big cichlids that are too in your face aggressive.

I have only had one, and for a long time it was the largest fish in the tank and put others in their place, but was not a killer. So pretty standard cichlid behavior. What type did you get, and where are the pics?

yup, 1st time, they never did anything for me, but I got a sweet deal and said "Let's try it". Thanks for the info, he will go in my peaceful SA tank when he grows out

It's a Green and I didn't take any pics yet.

Some species of sev really like eating a veggie heavy diet - including plants.
Just used up the last of the zucchini but I can always run to the grocery store :)

Love mine. I'm doing major cleaning this week and then I think I'm gonna try to do pics and vids of all my tanks, so you can see them then ^.^

Severums are great, and are not very aggressive. I think you won't have much success keeping them with more aggressive centrals, but will find that they go very well with SA cichlids on the more peaceful end of the spectrum. I kept mine with oscars in the past and it was a perfect mix, and I've tried keeping a 10" severum with a 5" male convict and the con bullied/nipped it.

Ok cool, i'm looking forward to it.
Severum are my favorite cichlids I hope you enjoy it
A new species is always fun to me, no matter what....I am enjoying it so far :)

It's currently in a bare 75g w/ 3 albino Rainbow Sharks, 2 Texas cichlids @ 2", and about 30-35 Convict fry which are getting dropped off at LFSs tonight and later this week......so very shortly, it will just be the Sev, Texas and ARSs, then it will go into the SA community once it's around 4-5".
Their care is nothing out of the ordinary really. Nice pickup.
I was just kinda thinking treat it like a smaller, more delicate Oscar, right?
