got my dat yesterday

its made it over night in my newly set up grow out tank (set up thurs)
was pure black but has changed to a light tinted gray yellow with his stripes
so he seems good id take pic but tank has a black backround and he stays by it and it wont com out with my phone

hes about 2 1/2 inch how long until i try and feed him some guppies?

why bother with live foods? there is risk of parasites and there not all that nutritious, plus, its a nightmare to convert them back to frozen and other prepared foods.

feeding live is very big, in asia and especially the US. but in UK we dont really practice this or promote live feeders.

i will get it on pelets but lfs said it only eats live i rather keep it alive lol till i can train it on prepared then starve it right when i get it

Yeah get him on some nice hikari massivore pellets and krill, blood worms and frozen food. Live food is either:
A: Deadly
B: Expensive
C: Time consuming
D: all of the above

I personally pick "d"

u never said wether it was thin or fat. If healthy u can starve till it eats what u want.

Just read ur last post, start with chopped prawn, muscle, fish , bloodworm, and see if it'll take pellets.

idk what a small dat should look like but to me 4 his size he has some wieght on him
belly isnt big but his sides liik meaty if that makes sence

any one just tell me how soon to start feeding the fish after he first enters new tank and what to feed him to get him off live food

give it a few days to adjust. sometimes it will eat right away, but it usually takes a little while.

as far as training it, you can starve your dat for up to 3 weeks if its healthy.
